As the founder of The HomeSpa®,
Debra Ann Townes has focused on and integrated a variety of skills, experiences, and interests in order to realize this endeavor. Growing up in a traveling military family made her a global thinker and enabled her to observe the application of various holistic personal care techniques and the natural products that often go with them.
Born in New York City, Debra left the US with her parents before the age of two and spent the early part of her childhood in Okinawa (Japan). Her early teens were in El Paso, Texas, and her late teens were in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (where her mother—who is originally from Panama—still lives). She has one brother, jazz musician Billy Townes, who still resides in El Paso. She also has one son, Jason, who attends Brown University in Providence, RI.
Debra takes delight in traveling and discovering unique and effective ways to naturally heal and rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul. Her education includes a BA in English from Boston University and studies toward a masters degree in Educational Psychology at Columbia University. She has further studied holistic health counseling, aesthetics, massage therapy, aromatherapy, and music.
Having worked at advertising agencies, design firms, publishing companies, and even a couple of day spas for most of her professional career, she chose to leave it all behind to start her own holistic day spa. The HomeSpa® was born in 1997.
